The news of the death of Dr.David Neville on Thursday 14th April has shocked his family and all who knew him. He had struggled with a worsening chest infection since January. Surrounded by his family and strengthened by the Sacraments of the Church he was able to surrender himself to the embrace of God’s mercy with complete serenity. David was a man of deep faith and endowed with many gifts. His faith provided a vision which enabled David to craft the application of his gifts in the most fruitful and selfless manner. There will be many opportunities to reflect upon his many qualities and achievements in the days ahead. Our first duty is to pray for his eternal repose and we do so with complete assurance. We express our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife Diana, to his devoted sons Ambrose, Dominic and James and to the entire family. Though the foundations tremble at the magnitude of our loss we are confident that David, the architect of so much creativity here at the Cathedral and at St.John’s College, has ensured an inheritance of continuity. He has had a profound influence in the lives of so many, enabling so much potential to find fulfilment. He was able to achieve so much because he was armed with a profound love for his family, he was equipped with a clear understanding of and respect for the human condition and he was inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. David has undoubtedly imprinted an indelible mark upon our lives and we are all profoundly grateful for the gift.
ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO HIM, O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM. MAY HE REST IN PEACE. AMEN.
